Is It Necessary to Connect the RF Ground on My Electronics? I Am Not Sure What Purpose It Serves?

Mike sent us this question through a YouTube comment, “Jeff, thanks once more for your contributions to our neighborhood. I can’t await the borders to open up so I can bring my watercraft to you! I am setting up a Furuno BBDS1, black box sounder, linked to my COMPUTER running TZ Navigator. The BBDS1 has 2 links to ground, one with the power cord (guard) as well as one with a lug on the situation. What is the finest place to ground each of these? None of the electronics onboard presently has a different ground running, besides the DC unfavorable. A lot of research study suggests these are hardly ever attached unless there is overwhelming noise on the sounder? What function does it offer?”
